Wong to Forge Iron Fist

Kirk Wong (The Big Hit) has agreed to develop and direct the feature film version of Marvel Comics'  Iron Fist for Artisan Entertainment. Ray Park (X-Men, Star Wars: Episode 1 -- The Phantom Menace) will star as the title character, Danny Rand, who was raised in a hidden Asian temple and later returns to the U.S. to find his parents' murderer. He gets the name "Iron Fist" from his ability to channel his chi [life force] into his fist, allowing him to strike with the force of iron. John Turman (The Incredible Hulk) wrote the screenplay. Iron Fist is the first film being developed from Marvel and Artisan's joint venture. Marvel CEO Ari Arad will produce. Shooting will begin late this year or in early 2002.

"[Wong's] insight and knowledge is exactly what is needed to launch the Iron Fist film franchise," said Arad, "hopefully to a legacy of several sequels."
