Second Dose of Shrek

DreamWorks will tell "the greatest fairy tale never told" one more time. Due to the success of Shrek ($112 million domestic gross since May 16), Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio have been hired to pen a second Shrek film, though sources are conflicted as to whether the follow-up film will be a sequel or prequel. Regardless, some sort of franchise attempt was inevitable once it became DreamWorks' biggest opening as well as the second-biggest opening for any animated film ($42.1 million). Elliott and Rossio have also written The Road to El Dorado and Small Soldiers for DreamWorks. DreamWorks said the second installment will stay true to the characters in the first movie, but Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and John Lithgow have not yet been approached about reprising their voice roles.
