WB Hopes Doubling Up Drains Buffy

The WB Network is taking one last jab at the defecting Buffy the Vampire Slayer series. Beginning June 24, the WB will air reruns of the show at 7 p.m. Sunday in addition to the previously announced 9 p.m. Wednesday airings. When the deal to move Buffy to UPN was announced, UPN shortly thereafter revealed that it would schedule Buffy at 8 p.m. Tuesday, the same timeslot it held on the WB, in the hopes that it would ease the transition for viewers. To counter that, the WB then decided to move its last summer of Buffy reruns to 9 p.m. Wednesdays in an effort to dilute UPN's strategy. Doubling up the airings of reruns is done in an effort to depreciate the value of the reruns. Fox did the same thing with The PJs the summer before the series moved to the WB.
