Peter Pan Video Grows Into Film

The boy who wouldn't grow up is turning into a theatrical film release, rather than the video release Disney originally planned. Executives are so happy with the sequel to the 1953's Peter Pan, that they're planning to release the movie theatrically in spring 2002. The project was shelved temporarily a couple of years ago, but was revived last year as a video release. Toy Story 2 and The Tigger Movie were also originally planned as straight-to-video release but where upgraded to theatrical releases when as they neared completion.

Disney is also developing an animated sequel to the 1961 animated One Hundred and One Dalmatians for a video premiere next year. A teaser will appear on April's video release of the live-action 102 Dalmatians. Video sequels to Tarzan, Mulan and The Jungle Book are also in the works. The Hunchback of Notre Dame II is scheduled for a fall video release, and a second sequel to The Lion King is being written.
