Hayter Won't Watch the Watchmen

X-Men screenwriter David Hayter denied the rumor that he would direct the film version of the Alan Moore/David Gibbons miniseries Watchmen, though he did confirm that he will adapt the script.

"I read some report on Harry Knowles' site [Ain't It Cool News], which said I was directing the movie," said Hayter. "This is not true. I am interested in writing it, as it is one of the most brilliant pieces I have ever read. I am looking into prospects for such an eventuality now."

Unfortunately, Watchmen doesn't even have a studio deal at the moment, though Hayter says that he is talking to the people who own the rights. Hayter wrote the most recent draft of the Incredible Hulk movie for director Ang Lee and spent this past summer writing the script for X-Men 2, which will be directed again by Bryan Singer.
