Judd Winick Signs With DC

Judd Winick, current writer of Green Lantern and a Pulitzer Prize nominee for the graphic novel Pedro and Me, has signed an exclusive one-year agreement with DC Comics. However, the deal excludes his ongoing agreement with Oni Press for The Adventures of Barry Ween, Boy Genius.

Winick's run on Green Lantern, which began with issue #129, has won critical acclaim not just from reviewers and national media but the 2002 GLAAD Media Award for his sensitive portrayal of homosexual characters. Winick first attracted attention on MTV's The Real World where he struck up a friendship with AIDS-infected housemate Pedro Zamora. After Pedro's death, Winick wrote about their experiences and continued to promote AIDS awareness and tolerance.

"Judd's run on Green Lantern has been absolutely amazing," said editor Bob Schreck. "He's blazed new trails in so many different directions and taken Kyle Rayner places no one expected him to go... and I always look forward to seeing what he comes up with next."
