Kidman Purr-suing Catwoman

By Beth Hannan Rimmels

Warner Bros. has offered Nicole Kidman the title role in its film version of Catwoman, but according to sources the actress is waiting for the film latest draft of the script before saying yes. The character was showcased in the film Batman Returns but when a solo film was delayed that movie's Catwoman -- Michelle Pfeiffer -- bowed out.  Ashley Judd then stepped in but has since also left the project, which will be helmed by French director Pitoff and produced by studio-based Di Novi Pictures. Catwoman has had numerous origins over the many years of her comic book appearances but it appears this screen version will portray her as a cat-loving gymnast who runs an animal-grooming business by day while fighting evil by night. The comic book version was a cat burglar who regularly challenged Batman but eventually evolved into a anti-heroine who helped people in her own unconventional ways. Kidman previously appeared in a Batman film before as Dr. Chase Meridian in 1995's Batman Forever.
